Effect of the Child Counselor¡¯s Self-esteem and Social Support on Countertransference Management Ability

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of child counselor¡¯s self-esteem and social support on countertransference management ability. The subjects of this study were 180 counselors who are counseling children under 18 years old. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis, Pearson¡¯s correlation, simple-regression analysis and multi-regression analysis. The result showed that child counselor¡¯s self-esteem and support of family showed significant positive correlations with countertransference management ability. When child counselor have higher self-esteem, the degree of all sub-factors of countertransference management ability is higher. When child counselors have higher social support such as support of family, the degree of empathy ability, self-integration and anxiety management is higher than the group of comparison.
